Lloyd’s Register has long adapted its Rules and Regulations to take into account experimentation and technological advances in shipbuilding. Two ships classed by the Society, Thermopylae and Cutty Sark, are examples of an area of experimentation that brought about new Rules – the technology of composite ships.
